Mr Ivan Tibenkana is a proven teaching and public health leader and brings to Joy Makers Charity foundation over 20 years’ experience in public health, Education, Economic Empowerment, Leadership & Governance as well as institutional Strengthening. As a public health expert, he has a wealth of technical, service delivery and research experience in HIV/AIDS, family planning and reproductive health, maternal and neonatal health and infection prevention.
He has a passion for development and as a professional educator, he co-founded Trinity College Buwaji, a secondary school in Budondo, Jinja city to provide quality education to the disadvantaged and vulnerable poor children in the rural communities of Jinja. Since inception in 1997, the school has continued to have a lasting impact on the community of Jinja and the country at large with individual and community empowerment spanning two decades. He is also a lecturer of Busoga University, Faculty of Health Sciences and the focal person for public health programs in Busoga Kingdom.
As a former chairman local council 3 of Budondo Subcounty in Jinja for a decade and a two-time mayor of Jinja City candidate, Mr Tibenkana has been an enigma in the political leadership of Jinja and has consequently held positions and chaired boards of directors of several not-for-profit and educational institutions, served on advisory panels and councils, and has received recognition for his leadership locally, regionally and nationally.
He currently holds the traditional leadership role as the Katikiiro (Prime Minister) of Butembe Chiefdom, one of the eleven chiefdoms that make up Busoga Kingdom; one of the Cultural Institutions in Uganda.
Mr Tibenkana holds a Master of Public Health Leadership (MPHL) degree from Uganda Christian University, a bachelor of Science degree from Makerere University, Uganda, a post graduate Diploma in Education(PGDE) from Makerere University, a certificate in Administrative Law Makerere University, Mother and New born Friendly Hospital Initiative Certificate -Uganda Christian University, Certificate in Strategic Leadership for Reproductive Health by Regional Centre for Quality of Health Care, Makerere University and Ministry of Health Uganda, Certificate of Competence in Global Health Maternal and Child Survival programming.
Mr Tibenkana is a recipient of the Outstanding Leadership Award in maternal and Child Health Save the Mother Program Uganda Christian University 2016 and Change agent of the year award in maternal, new born and child health of Uganda Christian University 2017.
He has authored several technical manuals and publications widely used worldwide, including “Securing water and women in a changing world, A male perspective on women and water” The Solutions journal Published in Canada November-December 2016 Edition.
