Mr. Schmid holds a Master of Clinical Psychology from the International Psychoanalytic University Berlin, Germany and a Bachelor of Psychology from the University of Groningen, Netherlands. He currently lives and works in Austria at SL Selbstbestimmt Leben; a national Disability services & support organisation in Innsbruck, Austria. At Selbstbestimmt Leben which literally means Self-determined life, Mr Philipp offers advice, training and advocacy for people with disabilities according to the principles of the self-determined life movement.
As a child, he had the recurring dream of being adopted. He grew up in a Western middle-class home in Germany with both parents and whereas there was always enough food on the table, there was quite some tension in the family and he knows how it feels to be misunderstood and sometimes being unloved. Also, he had felt lonely and isolated at times at school. Luckily, he could overcome all those negative feelings with the help of good mentors, his studies of psychology and friends he has made along the way. E
Every time he meets someone, who does not have both parents, it touches his heart, because they probably have experienced some of the negative feelings he had to wrestle with! He feels very connected to them and always reaches out to be their buddy / supporter, even from afar, when he cannot be on location. `Nobody ever should have to go through being misunderstood, unseen and lonely. We are in this life together and can try to be there for each other´, says Philipp.
Mr Philipp brings to the board wealth of knowledge in Child care and protection, expertise on affairs of people living with disabilities as well as knowledge and experience in the health sector.
