Veronica Balina | Co-Founder

"When I was 12, my grandmother gave me a nick name Tumaini (which is a Swahili word for Hope). At this time, I was living with her in the Major Seminary of Our Lady of the Angels in Kibosho, Kilimanjaro, Tanzania where she worked. When I asked her why she called me that, she explained ‘you give hope to the orphans in this seminary, you are natural with children and every day I see you playing cheerfully with them, you inspire hope”. At this stage, everything used to happen naturally. Helping those in need, wiping tears off the face of a crying child and encouraging those who had no reason to smile was something that I was passionate about. Little did I know that this was indeed my calling and destiny right from this tender age. Nothing gives me more joy than seeing those in despair smile. To this date, when you stroll down through the green hill of Kibosho which overlooks the marvelous Mt Kilimanjaro, no one in this village where I spent my earliest childhood years knows me by the name of Veronica but rather Tumaini. Right until the Eastern town of Jinja in Uganda where I have spent much of my adulthood years, Tumaini is my known name and I am happy that I am inspiring hope and living for the happiness of others."

About Kyabirwa Holistic Foundation

Kyabirwa Holistic Foundation (KHF) was established with the primary objective of empowering marginalized community groups in rural areas of Bugweri District, located in the Eastern and central regions of Uganda. We operate on a holistic philosophy, recognizing the intricate interconnectedness of all aspects of life. We are dedicated to uplifting women, children, individuals with disabilities, and refugees who are among the most vulnerable in society.

KHF is a fully registered local community-based organization (CBO) that operates without discrimination or religious affiliation. We are proud to be run by local Ugandans who understand the unique challenges and needs of our communities. Our approach is distinguished by its commitment to stainability, innovation, creativity, and cost-effectiveness. We prioritize community engagement, ownership, and participation using practical methods, and maintaining a long-term focus with clear end goals.
